I am seeing that the number of people wearing watch to work is declining. The reason being, people can check their time on their cell phone. In my team of 8 at work, I saw only 2 guys including me wearing a watch. How is at your place. will watch companies start providing cell phone features in their watches ;)

I still wear a watch. Checking the time on your watch is more subtle than on a phone. I also don't have my phone out on the train/when I am walking/etc.

I wore watch only during my school days for seeing time during exams. But I don't like to wear as it sweats more on the wrist.

I do not wear a watch, but I do not always have my mobile phone with me either. The thing is: I do not like having things at my hand, fingers, skin. I do not wear rings either for example. Actually a few people then think they can give me a watch as a present, for example an employer. The object always gets in a draw a few hours after, and never comes out again.

I wear my watch every day. I find it too cumbersome to dig out my cell phone just to to check the time.

I almost always know the time. When I don't, I either have a cell phone, a computer, a microwave, an oven, a wall clock, or a collegue nearby:D If nothing else, "Do you have the time?" is a good ice breaker too So, I havent worn a watch in a decade. I don't even have one.

I have seen some people who wear a wrist watch, have a habit of turning their wrists just to check time every couple of minutes. What's up with that?

I imagine it going like this. You ask your colleague what the time is. He or she doesn't know, so asks another colleague, who also doesn't know, and asks the next one, and so on, until it goes around the whole building, and the last colleague then asks you.

The imaginary watch that I wear on my hand is quite useful. Sometimes I stare at the empty space and exclaim 'Well will you look at the time !'. That usually puts an end to meetings that are unusually long and boring.

Not just the watch, it's annoying to wear any sort of metal to me. No ring either (Wife excused me on that).

This reminds me of an open-space office I've seen. It was so large that the employees were checking the weather on the internet, because the windows were so far away from their desks.....

That's hysterical! Where does Bear find all these images?

I wear a watch every day. I even have several of them accumulated over the years, so I can match them to my mood. (On reflection, I may have to cross-post that to the "Nerdiest thing you do" thread.)

I love to wear watch. Rather I like those nice looking watches.

My only preference is - I really hate my watch to have a second's hand. It always give me that uncomfortable feeling that time is discreet, which is not true. A watch without second's hand (only hour and minute hand) tell me how smoothly time flows. Besides, those watches are quite slim

And that the watch has to be square or rectangular shaped - not circular.

And it has to have metal belt - instead of leather one.

I would like if anybody is stopping to use their Rolex/Rado and don't mind gifting it to me

Though such a nitpicking in the Meaningless Drivel forum is probably uncalled for, I'd still point out that the Quantum Theory posits that the time, like everything else, is discrete after all.

Of course, with the smallest unit of time probably being roughly 10^-43 seconds, the ticking second hand does nothing to convey the true meaning of the discreteness of the time to the observer.

And then, in some watches with the old-fashioned mechanical drive, the second hand moves in steps small and short enough to actually look like it is moving steadily. I haven't seen such watches in a long time now, though.

Sorry for bringing up that time-discreteness thing here...

Yes, there were those watches where second's hand used to move in very short steps. But still it used to look discrete. The most beautiful flowing motion I've seen is in some wall clocks where second's hand moves just like its flowing...

Oh, no need to be sorry. A wink graemlin or two probably went missing from right after the first sentence in my post. I hope I can rope them down and have some sheriff cuff them before they wreak havoc in some really serious topic they obviously have wandered off to.

(In other words, I've just seen my favorite subject popping in and didn't control my urge to jump on it.)

I kind of have a watch fetish. I love the look of retro watches, like this Diesel...

...or this Paul Frank...

I also like the newer O'Clock models...

But lately, I've been wearing this Andy Warhol coffee watch...

I do have a nano watchband (not a fancy one), but I never wear it as a watch -- it's for listening to audiobooks while I'm out for my evening exercise walk.

I hate watches/clocks that have no hour markings. I takes an extra fews steps for the brain to interpret the time and that irritates me. When I want to know the time, I want to know the time and don't want to be left guessing. I prefer a digital time piece for this reason.

Then may I suggest Mondaine's "Don't Rush" watch? It has all the hour markings, as well as five-minute increments. It just has no minute hand...

From "don't want to guess", how did you jump to the conclusion "don't want to know the minutes on the hour"?

That is a neat looking watch.

I haven't worn a watch since I was a kid - long before I got a cell phone. I hated the feel on my arm. It would always get caught on things, and I would take it off and leave it places. So when cell phones came along I thought - nice, now I have an excuse when I get asked why I don't have a watch.

I love my watch. I feel bothered all day when I'm not wearing it. I don't like having to grab my phone to look up the time, I like to know the time at a glance. I also have very skinny wrists and I think the watch helps make my arms seem more beefy :P

I actually also still wear a ring an ex-girlfriend of mine gave me, because I wore it so much it feels weird not to.
