I am a fresher...and willing to do Java certification.
For which certification should i go ? (OCPJP 6 or OCPJP 7)

by reading previous posts...i come to know tht...before applying to OCPJP 7 it is necessary to give OCJA 7 exam.
So what are the reference books for OCJA & OCPJP 7 ?

Which is the reference book for preparation of OCPJP 6 ?
i found following books of same author.
1.SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Study Guide (Exam 310-065) (with CD-ROM) (Paperback) by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates (Rs.385)
2.SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Study Guide (With CD) (Hardcover)by Katherine Sierra, Bert Bates(Rs.2263)

among these books...which book shall i choose ?

the books you mentioned are not different books. the difference lies in the binding. one is hardcover which as you can interpret is solid, durable with hard covers staples and pins. whereas the other is paperback edition which is also called softcover. i think you obviously want to go for softcover considering the price of hardcover

Hello Ranjan Raut,

Welcome to CodeRanch!

As some of the members have already mentioned, those two are same books. Secondly, Sierra & Bates is not a collectible book. Please don't get me wrong, but that is not a standard Java book. It is a very good book purely focused on OCPJP - which means, you'll rarely refer it after you clear the exam. And finally, hardcover book is around 6 times more expensive than paperback. So, paperback is a natural choice.

Now, coming to the other question of yours, yes, for OCPJP7, you have to clear OCAJP.
So, you have two choices:
1) Do OCAJP, followed by OCPJP 7
2) Do OCPJP 6, followed by OCPJP 7 upgrade exam.

If you don't have any prior experience of SUN/Oracle certifications, I would suggest to take approach 1. OCAJP is little easier than OCPJP, and syllabus is evenly distributed over OCAJP and OCPJP 7.

I hope this helps.
