So there is this new game called "Game Dev Tycoon". You run a game development company, making new products and marketing them (so I assume based on the other "XYZ Tycoon" series I've played. Your goal is to make money selling your games.

Now...the company did something brilliant. They almost immediately released a 'cracked' version that was nearly identical to the actual game...except...

After you played for a few hours, you started having financial troubles...You start having problems selling your games because they keep being pirated. Eventually, you get to the point where you go out of business because piracy is so bad.

People started posting to boards saying they were frustrated because they couldn't figure out how to get around the piracy issue.

Here is an article on it.

I think this is just BRILLIANT!!!

Proving that there are a large number of people who can't learn a lesson even when smacked in the face with it.

You can download a demo of the game from their website, or buy the full version there as well...It was (I think $8, U.S.).

I can't find the link now, as I'm at work and our firewall won't let me get there, but google "Game Dev Tycoon" and you'll find it rather easily.

I pulled down the demo this morning on my home pc, but haven't played it yet.

I'm not at work today. But yes, it was easy to find.

And that is funny about the pirating!

It was funny, but the statistics at the end of their blog post aren't. Over 90% of people playing the game were playing the pirated version.
