OK, not really, but cylindrical and 1/8th the size of the current Mac Pro with much more power (and stunningly gorgeous).

12-core Xeon processor, tons of ports, and dual GPUs capable of running 3 4K displays.

More info here at Cult of Mac .

No word on price, but it ain't likely to be cheap. But what an improvement for the Pro space!

Also, assembled in the USA.

And Final Cut Pro X now has support for three screens.

Man, if I had time to return to video editing I'd be dropping some big bucks on a new setup. Luckily I'm too busy with other projects for the foreseeable future and so going further into debt is averted for now.

More info on the design: the cylindrical shape isn't just for asthetics:

A unified thermal core.

The new Mac Pro packs an unprecedented amount of power in an unthinkable amount of space. A big reason we were able to do that is the ingenious unified thermal core. Rather than using multiple heat sinks and fans to cool the processor and graphics cards, we built everything around a single piece of extruded aluminum designed to maximize airflow as well as thermal capacity. It works by conducting heat away from the CPU and GPUs and distributing that heat uniformly across the core. That way, if one processor isn’t working as hard as the others, the extra thermal capacity can be shared efficiently among them. No computer has been built this way before. And yet it makes so much sense, it’s now hard to imagine building one any other way.

No mention of Cray's reason for the cylinder: less distance means more speed.

Would be interesting to compare a new Mac Pro to this 2012 implementation of the classic cylindrical Cray: http://www.nycresistor.com/2010/08/29/finally-finished/

Right, the short distances of a cylindrical backplane was the reason for the Cray's design -- not to mention the sitting areas!

Apparently, cooling is the reason for the Mac Pro's new design.

I think it's really cool (pun absolutely intended).

The prototype they showed at WWDC was actually reflective metal rather than black. I think I like the black better!

Realistically, Apple had to provide a Pro that cranks, and a version of Final Cut that the pros wanted. The old Pro was ancient and too slow for modern high end work (editing 4K videos, etc.) and the pros hated how the last version of Final Cut was dumbed down for consumers.

Graphics, photo and video professionals kept Apple alive until the mega dollars of the iPhone came along. Its good do see some love from Apple to them.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
