I'm looking for some recommendations for a Software developer conference to attend. My current company will send us on one conference per year but I don't know which one to choose for 2014, or even this year if there's any coming up. Having never had this opportunity before I do not really know what events are out there and which ones are good, or not.

I'm in the UK so have had a look at the QCon London event which looks pretty cool. However I may be able to look further afield, say in the US, so any recommendations would be warmly received.

Thanks
Tim

QCon always looks good, but never made it there so far. I was hoping to make it to FP Days 2013 in Cambridge this month, but I can't afford the time/cost and my employer won't spring for it either.

FP Days looks pretty cool Chris, I didn't know about that one. Bit short notice for me to get over for it though (I live in Northern Ireland) but maybe next year I'll go for it. I have only just recently started learning about Functional Programming on the Coursera FP with Scala course that you put me onto a month or so ago in another thread. We're 3 weeks in and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's quite tough, but that's a good thing in my book.

I found the Scala course pretty challenging but very rewarding, and it was also a great preparation for the excellent Programming Languages course which I took earlier this year. Are you planning to keep the Scala momentum going and join us on the Reactive Programming course after your current one finishes?

The Programming Languages course just started a few days ago and I'm signed up for that. Have this weeks FP assignment to complete first then I'll get stuck into the first PL material. Going to be pretty busy with the both running together but I'll see how I go with it. I have also signed up for the Reactive Programming course which starts immediately after this FP course finishes. Busy times ahead for sure.

Wow - hard core FP all the way, then! So when do you reckon you'll have time to go to any conferences between now and Christmas anyway?

Good luck with the courses - see you in Reactive Programming next month.

Scala days 2014 is happening this time around in Berlin. You might want to consider attending it!
