Hi I was wondering if someone could explain why break is not reached in this code?

It's from K&B page 405.

Cause the break statement is not under for loop's scope.

So I guess that means it's part of case 0? Like in a normal switch statement.

Here's the code re-formatted with all the braces. This is why you should always use them, even if htey are not strictly necessary.

Yes. It is. Since your for loop goes into infinite loop, the program control never reaches to break statement.

Without braces, only the first statement after the if is under the if block. Every statement after the first statement after if is not part of the if statement.

You wrote your for in such a way that it will never end. that's why execution will not hit 'break'.
