Dear All,

I'd appreciate some feedback on the following

We have a need to create some end user reports from ODBC databases. The data comes from multiple sources and needs 'manipulated'. The basic problem is that I don't always have a sql resultset I can simply pass as a parameter.

For now I've been creating bean objects, storing them in a session fields and using the display-tag library for inquiry type information. Where an actual (physical) report is required I've been using javabeans datasource with Jasper Reports

I've also been trying BIRT which looks more polished, and considering JFreeReport, which is closer linked to Pentaho a possible BI solution.

An alternative solution to this issue would be to create dummy files in a 'Derby' or similar database for processing by these tools, but that seems wrong.

Could it be i'm just thinking too hard about this, does anybody have a better approach or real world experience with these products.

Thanks in advance

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
