Is this suitable for studying for the upgrade exam as well?

Hi Will,

Yes. All of the upgrade topics are in the book, and there is a table (like a mini ToC), in the intro that explains which upgrade topics are located where in the book. Keep in mind though that if you're doing the upgrade exam, MOST of the book won't apply to you. We feel bad about that, but it's all we could do.

BTW, there are also tables in the intro for the SCPJ 5 and SCJP 6 (or whatever they're called) exams. So, if for some reason you want to take those older exams, you can use this book as well.

If the v7 book can also be used for older exams, doesn't the reader need to ignore this part, read this part etc

Won't the older study guides K&B5 and K&B6 be more appropriate (that is mainly without the new Java 7 features)?

Hi K,

There are so many variables! If you know that all you want to do is study for the 5 or 6 version of the exam, then those books would be more focused. But maybe you also want to get an intro to the Java 7 topics?

As a small help, the book has a set of tables, one for each exam, and each table provides a cross reference between the exam's objectives, and where those objectives are covered in the book.
