This is actually pretty accurate. I'd say I'm at phase 5 bordering on 6. Still a long way to go.

I've mastered Vim, so I'm definitely beyond 8 :-)

I can use VIM to edit config files but I wouldn't dream of using it to write code. The same goes for EMACS. Maybe EMACS should be phase 12.

Nice! I'll use vi to code in a pinch, but I'd rather have an IDE.

I "grew up" on primitive editors and I will never, ever understand the attitude that using clunky, archaic editors is some sort of tech badge of courage or bragging point. Give me modern tools!

Phase six I guess. But I could do better when put under stress. I am a bit lazy.

I worked in web development and ended up hating it so much. Friends always asking if I could fix their computer. Clients I had to deal with who were beyond a joke and expected free work. Never helped the fact that the place I worked was doing " free demos ". Literally, a potential client would come in and they would be told that the developers would make a 'demo' for them. Developers never got paid for these demos. Only got paid if the client actually went with it. It was a nightmare.
Then the sheer amount of drag and drop bedroom "developers" who were nothing short of cowboys advertising full ten page custom sites for £99. Though I do still look at CSS Awards and love the great designs some make. Web Development drove me towards software engineering, so not all bad.

My friends and family know me as The Computer Doctor. Whenever the computer is doing something they don't expect they call me. Once a friend called me because something wasn't working with Skype. I simply stopped and re-started Skype and it worked. He thought it was a miracle because he had been trying for 2 hours to get it to work... I also made a few simple websites for some friends.

I'm sure you and I aren't the only ones here who get asked a lot by friends and family to fix their computers...

Not sure what that has to do with web development. If you do any kind of development, everyone assumes you know how to "fix computers".

My standard answer: "I use a Mac. Sorry can't help.".

I think I can put myself at 9. Whiteboards are involved, but usually I'm not the one doing the planning XD
