Hello! I understand that i should get a null pointer exception. However, instead i'm getting a mistmatch exception which says an Integer can't be converted into and Int, why am i getting this error? Isn't java supposed to do the autoboxing for me as of 5.0 and later? How do i check if i have 5.0 or later?

I got 1.7.0_04, seems like it exceeds 5.0. Thank you for that simple trick. What could otherwise be the issue do you think?

Are you compiling from the command line or from an IDE?

In Eclipse "javac -version" probably doesn't give you the setting that it's actually using. A place in Eclipse to check: right click on your project top directory, then: Properties > Java Compiler. Either it will say Enable Project Specific Settings along with the compiler version, or click on Configure Work Space Settings. This will take you to a place to check the compiler version (and change it if need be).
