Yes there is that possibility.
The
java process on the remote server needs to be started with special options to allow remote debugging:

Once you have done that, then you just use Eclipse to debug a "Remote Java Application" specifying the host and the port number to connect to.
Your local Eclipse will still need a copy of the remote code being run in order to be able to debug effectively though.
