I am really happy to have a chance to ask Herbert Schildt about his new book - I learnt Java reading one of his books years ago - and at the same time I am almost sorry to ask this question ( I know, it looks like a bit nasty), but I would really love to hear from the author why nowadays it would be worth learning Java FX. Here on coderanch, most of times I read that desktop applications are dead - and this makes me sad, really - and because Java FX does not run natively in any browser - it requires a Java runtime - I wonder if it is not practically a revamped Applet technology...
Thanks for any answer!

Hi Claude,

It's always great to hear from someone who used one of my books. Thanks

As to your question: In my opinion, JavaFX represents a major step forward in Java GUI frameworks. I truly appreciate its streamlined design, its use of the stage and scene metaphor, and its ability to easily incorporate that "visual sparkle" that today's computing environment demands. Also, its support for 3-D graphics is incredibly easy to use. You can also animate 3-D objects with ease. Finally, as I see it, JavaFX represents the future. I think it's that important.
