I have absolutely got no experience with map API's. Could anyone suggest me a Javascript API for the following use case:

1. The user enters an address (street, postal code) in the search bar on the HTML page
2. I will do a search against this street and postal code and fetch all other addresses that are near to this (need to figure out how to do this)
3. Assuming that I have done Step 2, I would now need to make use of the Google map to overlay these search results as points on the map with a marker

My questions:

1. What javascript API should I consider?
2. Do I need additional special API to do the overlay on the map?

This seems to be interesting, but just not sure if it would serve my purpose!

Let me eat my own dog food again!

After doing some research, I settled for using OpenStreetMap and leaflet.js!

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
