The team I mentor the programmers on came in first place at the competition over the weekend. You can see our robot in two videos. We are team 694. We only lost two matches and they were matches were we were having a software issue and didn't move.
We also won the engineering inspiration award which is the second best award there is. The video of us going up to get high fives from the judges for that is fun because we just found at and are surprised and happy. You can see me go by at the 12 second mark and then again from 1:04-1:14. (I'm the one who hugs one of the judges). They mentioned a good number of things the team did when announcing the award. I was particularly proud of them for the "fix it crew" getting mentioned. While the students have always helped other teams with broken robots or robots that didn't pass inspection, they formalized it this year. And helped so much more than usual. To the point where I was getting thank yous from mentors on other teams. I was hoping they'd win the Gracious Professionalism award for that and was disappointed when it was announced. Then I found out when. We won a better award! (you can only win one). When they announced, the first sentence was "this 130 member team". I friend I was sitting with said "that's a big team" to which I replied "our team is about that size". Then they started announcing things we did and it was our team!
Awesome weekend!
