what is web.xml,and what is its role and importance of web.xml??

web.xml is called the deployment descriptor.
All the servlets that are to be used in teh context are to be declared inside this file along with their URL patterns. Then the filter declaration and stuff like that boes into it.
Its basically the central configuration point for the context that you are deploying

Any programmer working with servlets should have a copy.
