1) May I know how long you use to prepare for these two exams?
First exam should not take more than 2 weeks of preparation, if you are familiar with SQL.
Second exam, 703: will take one or max of 2 months of effort. You should be familiar with basic java and c coding.
2) Which materials you use?

3) And what is the difference between 703 and 701? Are they overlay?
Exam 701 is DB2 UDB V 8.1 Database Administration Linux, windows Platform, for the people who are doing administrative tasks , not exactly the coding can take up this exam.Based on environment they are working wither 701 or 702 exams they can take.
Exam-703 is DB2 UDB V8.1 Application Developer, for the application developers of java or Mainframes or any thing who will be interacting with DB2 database thru queries or procedures.
