Hi,

Spring for long time has been the premier framework for Java Web Developers around the framework.
But what is the next level for Spring framework to include current as well future challenges for Java ?

Hi,

I am one of those guys who are seriously thinking of slowly moving away from Java in which I have worked for almost a decade.
Will Java 8 have enough good points to bring back guys like to Java again ?

Hi,

How many people are still studying EJB today.
I don't think many people are.
Although I come from a time where learning EJB was an essential part of J2EE learning.
And many software's still have EJB beneath the hood. So when an error is thrown from the EJB end it's the ones who know it stand out.
But I still feel only a hand few resources really are learning EJB today.

Hi Paul,

I went through the sample chapter and more importantly the preface.
I must say I am excited .
The coverage seems good enough although I would have liked to see a bit more on Testing.
The important part here is functional programming and Scala is a just a helping language to teach the paradigm.
Since the examples are also there in github, cross checking of whatever is 'going in' can also be done.
This also helps since I am also trying my hands on Erlang as well.
Thanks a lot and looking forward to the complete text.

Hi,

I am getting books in Scala most of which is trying to teach Scala to a guy coming from Object Oriented background.
Either there are references as to 'this is the way you would do it Java and here is how how you do it in Scala'.
Or there would be a mix and match of both the paradigms.
I am not saying they are not required but if Scala pushes you program functionally, then better make resources think functionally right from the word go.

So I come back to my question is this a completely 'Functional' book in the sense it actually teaches you program in Scala only from the functional perspective.
If that is the case I am truly looking forward to it.

Hi Lloyd,

Thanks for that.
I will definitely check out both Hudson / Jenkins initially and then maybe select one of them going ahead.

Hi,

How good is Hudson's support for other JVM based languages (Scala, JRuby, etc)
Which is better Jenkins or Hudson as a CI for other languages ?

Hi,

When I look at GoF book and present day design patterns (let's say in Wikipedia), I see a difference which is growing
I would like to know does this book cover latest design architectures which covers recent changes in software paradigm.
Also I would love to see a design book which is concise and too the point but should explain the patterns in depth.

Hi,

Would anyone kindly recommend one book for learning the latest standards to develop Java Web Services.
I am beginner in this area and need a book that guides step by step to a pretty advanced level.
Not only examples but also how it works in a detailed fashion will also help.

Hi,

I have a year's experience in JWS.
Will it help in learning JWS step by step to an advanced level.
Kindly note I am not looking for a certification. Only want to learn JWS in detail

Hi,

Firstly thanks for this book. A good book on Java Socket Programming is really a rarity.
I just hope this covers both stream and datagram communications are covered in detail

Hi,

The interesting thing about the new Design book is the no of pages. 50 pages- that's pretty sleek. There's nothing better than keeping a technical book short and sweet.
But still why another design book . What is different in this book?

Thanks Bill . But I am now interested to know more about how level based , on-demand structure works . I ask this because I have faced situations in BI reporting where this was the structure that was required but was not there.

And Nicholas thanks for touching the latency issue. I am not aware of Impala but am eager to see how Mondrian plugs in with Drill.

Thanks a lot.
