When I searched for UML certification in Google, it gave me UML certification by different companies. Which is a valid and valuable one? Please guide on this.
When I Googled "UML Certification" I only found two organizations offering certification. The rest of the sites were either just talking about UML certification or were, like Whizlabs, offering test study aids.
Besides the IBM certification exam the only other one I found was the certification from the Object Management Group (OMG). Since OMG is the organization that maintains the UML standards, thier certification is certainly nothing to sneeze at.
That said, the IBM exam is perhaps better known than the OMG and the IBM exam is just one of many certification exams and programs from IBM. [ April 11, 2006: Message edited by: Linda Walters ]

That said, I have to add that I believe that OMG UML Certification seems to evaluate your understanding of the UML specification, while IBM seems to evaluate practical knowlege of the UML usage.

I believe that you may be 100% correct in your assessment. The OMG exam does seem to be more theoretical and the IBM more practical. That being the case I would be even more inclined to go for the IBM if the reason for seeking certification is to enhance employability.

IBM do not have any general UML certification. UML (000-486) is only one of the requirements for IBM Certified Enterprises Developer v5.0 certification. However, this certification will be ended on December 31, 2006.
IBM does have some OOAD certifications for Rational Product but open to IBM Business Partners, IBM Educational Partners and IBM employees only.
Sun SCEA program requires UML knowledge as well. You will need to make use of your UML knowledge for your design in your part 2 assignment. This is a performance-based certification.

In your post you have mentioned that, the certification will be ended in Dec 31, 2006. Does this mean, IBM - 486 certification will be closed? If yes, will it be replaced with a new exam?
Where do i get more information about it?
