Ant logging

I am using Ant for the first time within a project. I have managed to get Ant to send e-mail on completion of a build and I am attaching log.xml to the mail. This is created using the following command line argument:
ant - listener org.apache.tools.XmlLogger.
This is fine however a bit long winded. Has anyone written a custom log class for ant ? If so I would be interested in how this was achieved.
