Is it possible to open a project in Textpad

I don't think so. TextPad is a just a sophisticated (customisable) editor with some support for compiling and running Java programs and Applets.

From my limited experience with TextPad, I'd suspect that mark is correct. I never noticed an ability to create a project or workspace in TextPad.

I think you want an IDE rather than an editor.

TextPad lets you set up "workspaces" under File | Workspace.

You can make a 'workspace' in TextPad like this:
Go to 'File->Workspace->Save As'. Add/open some files and save the Workspace again.

There's a free IDE called GEL which you can download from this website. I haven't used IDE's myself much, so I'm not sure how to rate it. But it does allow you to set up projects, hook into your currently installed SDK, code-completion, tracing facilities, etc.
Might be worth a go
