Dear all, I am evaluating if it is worth paying for an IDE or using Eclipse for free. Please suggest me the best IDE among Eclipse (FREE), Jbuilder, IDEA or any other. Regards Tarun

I like Gel, a freeware Java and JSP IDE that runs natively on Windows. http://www.gexperts.com/

I love IDEA. It saves me loads of time compared to other IDEs and it doesn't take too long to recover the initial outlay with productivity benefits. The latest version of Eclipse look a lot better but it's still not quite as productive, at least for me. At the end of the day it is all down to personal preferences, what you need to do and how you work. Basically you need an IDE that doesn't get in the way of developing the application.

I have tried working without IDE (good for learning Java) and then use Forte for Java for awhile. Overall it is better, but I found that building GUI was not straight forward and I did better without it. Now I am using NetBeans and find it much better. I have not used the GUI yet, but suspect it will be like the other.

Ya Sun One Studio [Forte] or NetBeans [actually almost same] are good.
