After receiving a reply, what is the generally accepted way to thank the poster(s)? If I thank the poster for the information, then that adds to the posts that people must open. However it seems rude to not extend a thanks for someone taking their time to answer.

Bob:
wow! I should say Thanks for asking.
But then we at javaranch.com consider this to be a friendly
place and try to advocate the unwritten policy (unlike the
naming policy) of no sorry no thanks.
But then I can understand how much it means to get help and
the need for us to say Thanks when something works out.
Starnge that you mentioned this, but the other day when I could
get cocoon to work on my machine, I was so happy, I thought
I will buy a gift for anyone from the ranch who knows me and
who says hi.
ps: You mind if I move this thread to the Javaranch forum.
I feel it doesn't belong in the Java (Intermediate). Thinking of
which, maybe you could mention Thanks in that forum. Seems more
appropriate. Will wait for your response, before moving.

Please go ahead and move the post( I didn't think to add it elsewhere). I understand the exact feeling about wishing to express a heartfelt thanks. I for one would like to thank all the people who put in the time and effort to make this board such a great place.
