Eclipse - XMI import of UML

The EMF model in Eclipse allows UML diagrams to be created and translated into code. I am using a non-Rose UML modelling tool to diagram my UML models at the moment.
Can Eclipse (EMF) import the XMI for the models that I currently export from my UML tool?
What diagrams are supported in the Eclipse EMF?
Will there be a clash if diagrams not supported in EMF are imported?

The XMI that your current UML tool exports probably can't be used directly by EMF, unless the the tool you're using exports "Ecore XMI". EMF only concerns itself with the Class Diagrams in UML, other diagrams are ignored. These issue are discussed in Chapter 2 of the EMF book, which fortunately is one of the sample chapters available at amazon.com, so you can read it without buying the book.
EMF's metamodel curresponds essentially to the EMOF subset of the recently accepted OMG MOF 2 standard. In the future, we expect every UML tool to support EMOF, and then be usable with EMF.
