I've googled around a bit, and am starting to think there's no way to do this...but maybe someone knows better. Can emacs be plugged in to Eclipse. That is, can I use emacs as an editor inside of eclipse?

Let me guess. You're looking for something like EE2E?

Ya, I found ee2e. But it looks pretty weak in terms of functionality. Its not the same thing as running emacs inside of eclipse... i think its more of an emulator. am i wrong?

Ah, so you're talking about running "The" Emacs as an editor for Eclipse... Why do you want to do that, if I may ask? What do you want from Eclipse and what do you want from Emacs?

I think emacs is incredilby powerful and provides an enormous amount of functionality that I've come to rely on. I think its also considerably more flexible and customizable than the Eclipse editor. In any case, since Eclipse is a great tool and Emacs is a great tool, I figured it would be great to combine the two.

Take a look at https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=32589

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
