Hi,
i am new to Eclipse and what to know
(1) in simple terms what actually is Eclipse? how is Eclipse actually beneficial?
(2) for example, i want to write server-side programs using Servlets/JSP. The Eclipse IDE contains the Tomcat server. now, how can i use that Tomcat to execute my servlets and JSP programs?
thanks in advance.

1) Eclipse is a development environment for Java (and other languages as well) that's highly customisable.
2) Eclipse does not come with Tomcat, but you can install a plugin that allows Tomcat integration (which means you can start and stop Tomcat from Eclipse and run the debugger on your servlets).

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
