For IE, go to Tools, then Internet Options, then Advanced and check for following to be enabled : Microsoft VM java console and JIT. I just tried that here at work and it seems to work, but I'm sure not if that was my original problem on my home PC.

I have followed the instructions you have given(for IE 5.5 Advanced settings). The console and JIT were already checked but I am still getting a blank space. The only thing that shows is a black, thin-lined border and a little multi-colored emblem in the upper left-hand corner. This is not the only applet or animated item on the web that I am unable to view. I have gone to mock test sites that are conducted with applets and get the same problem. Any further suggestions would be appreciated. thanks in advance!

David , My instructions seemed to work for me at work but I had the same problem you did at home. I think I must have deleted some type of java related files or replaced some when installing the JDK. Anyway, I downloaded Netscape Navigator and everything is fine on it. Try reinstaling IE or try Netscape...
