I have problem installine Eclipse in my system.. I am using win98 sec edition os. N i have jdk1.4 installed in my root ie c:\. I have unzipped the eclipse files.. and its placed in c:\. The absolute path for that eclipse is c:\eclipse.
i tried copying jre into the eclipse folder still it was giving some exceptions.. a log of exceptions created in the configuration folder. some thing like bundle exceptions.. N unable to initialize the plugins some thing like that.. what shall i do.. i have been trying everything.. i tried to edit autoexec.bat for setting the path for c:\jdk1.4\jre\bin\javaw.. nothing is working.. please anybody help me.. i am struggling to get thro this one...
Hello thank you for your replying.. but i just wanted to know how exactly to set the jre.. or perhaps install if not copy as you were telling.. how to install jre..?? I am not aware of it.. i am a newbie to ide's .. can you please let me know ....expecting your reply as early as possible Thank you
hello.. well i think u are refering that windows.. menu n jre inside the ide....... my probis that i am not able to install the ide itself.... so wht should i do.. i am just getting that splash screen of eclipse thats all after that nothing is coming.. its loggin some exceptions in a configuration folder.. please anybody help me installin eclipse in win98...............
1) install the J2SE following the instructions from Sun for your platform. 2) install Eclipse following the instructions for your platform. 3) enjoy.
Either step 1 and/or 2 may require you reboot your computer. As step 2 is simply unzipping the archive and optionally creating some desktop or startmenu shortcuts that's unlikely.
If you followed the installation instructions for the J2SE you'll have found you need to add the J2SE bin directory to your system path. This requires on Windows 98 that you reboot your machine for the changes to take effect. You may also (depending on Windows and J2SE version need to replace the java.exe and javaw.exe in your windows and/or windows\system directories with the ones from your J2SE installation for things to work correctly. I think you missed that last step and/or failed to reboot your computer.

Ranganath, Oh. Sorry I missed that. Another thing to check is that there aren't any other versions of java on your path.

Hmm.. well guys .. thanks alot for your efforts.. but i donno its still not working.. as per the instructions i have installed jdk1.4 N unzipped the eclipse.. N after that i will set the path to c:/jdk1.4/bin thro my .bat file..... but its still not working.. its loggin some exceptions in the configuration folder.. N for info the jdk1.4 compiler is working fine with this path.. i have been doing proj just by using editor.. now i wanna swith to eclipse.. N i am stuck to install... anyways expecting replies asap..
