Is there a way to open a miscellaneous source file using Eclipse, or does it have to be added to a project first?

Using IDEA?

I don't think you can do this in Eclipse, but you can do it easily in IDEA -- just File | Open .

Warren,
In Eclipse, everything has to belong to a project. It doesn't necessarily have to be a Java Project, but it has to be a project.

So where were you guys when I posted this thread?

Seriously, thanks. I may still be able to switch. (And there are a few other little glitches I've found with Eclipse that I didn't care for....)

Ilja,
Cool feature in Eclipse 3.0. I need to download it one of these days!

Does Eclipse save the file in it's external location after editing?

I suspect it does. Didn't try it yet, though.
