You can change the JRE for code that doesn't require the server in your workspace preferences. You cannot change the JDK used for the server without upgrading WSAD itself. WSAD 5.1.2 is the first version using java 1.4.

5.1.2 is not a free download. Contact your IBM rep (that you bought 5.1 from) for details about licensing.
