Hi all,

I am looking for an IDE for my next J2EE project. I am quite new to J2EE professional development. I have heard a lot about eclipse. I am quite not sure whether it would satisfy some of the needs.Things i am lookin for r:
1. free
2. able to support JSP, servlet's, JDBC.
3. CVS support.
4. provide swing elements.(so that i could write some swing components easily).
5. tomcat and apache included.
6. should be able to use code developed for commercial purposes.

Also which is the best available AppServer(free) that goes best on win2003 server.

Thanx,
Kitty

My IDE choice is Eclipse, with a suitable plug-in (Lomboz, or JBossIDE).

For a Application server have you considered JBoss, - it is open source. No idea how it would work with Windows 2003 Server. But, if you are not going to use EJB's, then why not just stay with Tomcat.

You can find a list of Application Servers (and reviews, free books, etc) here: The Server Side.

1) Netbeans is extremely slow
2) Netbeans has massive memory requirements

You won't find a free IDE that does all you want and then some. Get over it... In fact, it's better that way since you can plug and play new versions of software together yourself.

Eclipse goes a long way though, especially with the right plugins.

Personally for what you want I'd shelf out for JBuilder Developer. It's reasonably priced, extremely complete, and does all you want and more.
