"Manoj manoj",

We're pleased to have you here with us in the <forum> forum, but there are a few rules that need to be followed, and one is that proper names are required. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious. And the first name and last name should be different.

Thanks,
Jeanne

Manoj,
A version is a way of marking all of the files in a project. That way, you can later go back and pull in that group of files the way they were at a certain point.

A branch allows you to develop in two pieces or streams. You can later merge those branches back together.

Yes, you can have as many branches as you like, branched from any version you like. (Though you can easily navigate yourself into a situation where it gets very hard to merge changes.)

http://www.csc.calpoly.edu/~jdalbey/205/Resources/cvsBranchMerge.html gives a good introduction.

Manoj,
Thanks for updating the display name.

It is common to use different branches for different versions. It is common to create a branch for maintenance on a version already in production while doing development on the main branch.

Think of how dumb the average person is. Mathematically, half of them are EVEN DUMBER. Smart tiny ad:
