Naming policy

Hi,
I'm just wondering... instead of sending messages in all threads about the naming policy, wouldn't it be simpler to just make a small javascript filter for the name. Also if it's really an issue put the filter and delete the accounts that do not conform to the policy.
would make things a lot simpler for moderators...
just my 2 cents

JavaRanch is built on a UBB software platform (which is NOT java based). In order to modify anything Paul has to hack into the software (not fun) and then each time he upgrades, all the hacks are gone.

I don't think a javascript filter needs modification of the UBB code (I might be wrong... who knows )

The login page is generated by and contained within the UBB software. If the software is upgraded it will, of course, come with a new version of the login page which would need "hacking" again. This is why we tend to shy away from such changes.

How about a facade pattern that has the login in a jscript page and then verifies it - if succesful, post to the ubb software?
