you need to use Eclipse 3.1 or later and set the project properties to use Java 1.5 or later.

Is there any option to upgrade the current version 3.0.1 to latest, instead of reinstalling the latest version completely?

Raja,
I recommend installing Eclipse 3.2. This will let you use the auto update feature to prevent having to download the whole thing in the future. This time, I don't think you can use the auto update.
