Why is that when the IDE's kept open for some time and later maximized, gets slow?? I'm facing problem with netBeans, so I switched to Eclipse, but both are the same!

Maybe a memory leak? Check your operating system monitor (task monitor in windows) to check out this theory.

Ok I will try this. But does this happen with you guys as well?? I tried using Eclipse and netBeans in different systems but I'm getting the same strange behavior?? Not able to understand!

It does not happen with me. Sounds like windows is swapping your IDE out to the pagefile. What OS? What JVM version? How much RAM?

It happened with Eclipse 2.0 & 256MB RAM. Eclipse 2.1 was unusable with 256MB RAM.

I have Eclipse-Lomboz 3.2. It also seems irritating with this memory leak problem. I have 512MB ram.

Does it continue to perform slowly after you start using it again? Or does it just have a slow return?

I am going to blame this one on windows.

When I close it and open again, it works perfectly fine. But when I keep it open for a long time, it becomes slow! I faced same problems with netBeans on a different machine. Now I have a new machine with a new installation of windows but still I get this performance from Eclipse which is really upsetting!

yeah, ive had similar problems, but only for a while, it starts working fine after i use it for a few minutes.
Like someone said a couple posts ago, probably needs to be blamed on windows.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
