This week's book giveaway is in the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. We're giving away four copies of Refactoring for Software Design Smells: Managing Technical Debt and have Girish Suryanarayana, Ganesh Samarthyam & Tushar Sharma on-line! See this thread for details.
I've got IDE project files I need to keep out of SVN. I've been trying to set them to ignore through Intellij IDEA but it never works. So I've been trying from the command line with out much luck either. Anyone have a good reference link aside from the official svn docu that would be helpful?
Also, is there a way to keep other devs from being able to commit specific files to svn? If I get ignore working will it take care of this or is it per machine?
Alright, I figured out how to get svn:ignore to work. Problem is it really doesn't do what I expected it to do. So now the question remains...Is there a way to keep other developers from checking in specific file?
So my new idea is to have the pre-commit check the file(s) against an ignore list and failing if it finds one. The only problem I am having now is I don't know perl. Has anyone done anything like this before? I need to get a list of file names and then report an error to STDERR if it finds one and return non-zero exit code.
