I'd just like to say that I think the people on this forum must be the nicest internet community I've come across. Truly amazing what I've learned here.

Guys: I have to agree with you. Since the layoff, I have received at least a dozen private e-mails from people from the Ranch - everyone of them positive. I am also planning on meeting one or two for lunch next week here in Denver. The names required aspect of the Ranch helps out alot. Not sure how much time (if any) the moderators have to spend weeding out harrassment/flame messages. On other boards (such as the train spotting boards), the moderators claim to have to delete 20% of the messages due to personal attacks / profanity. On the unmoderated ones - it's such a joke that you can't even hold a decent conversation. As for me, this board is sort of my therapy session. Gives me a chance to share my job-hunting knowledge, and helps to relieve a lot of the stress with the layoff. So guys, thanks for a great board. John Coxey (jpcoxey@aol.com)

Hi guys .. We're blushing Thanks for the kind words. I love this place too and all the people who come here. The vast majority aren't interested in flame wars, so stopping them isn't too difficult and it really helps to have 'delete' power John, best of luck in you job search. Sometimes what looks like a bad break ends up being a lucky turn; hope you find it so. Jane
I can't believe how much time I spend just hanging around this place... It's a popular saloon, a good place to setup with a drink, and talk with others. ------------------ David Roberts, SCJP2

Ditto. I asked our lead programmer at work a java question yesterday and showed him an example from this site and told him a bit about the Cattle Drive. He was totally dumbfounded that people would volunteer to help "strangers" (especially annoying beginners like me ) learn java. He thought it was fantastic...as do I. Thanks to all!
