Passing parameters to echo using ANT

Would it be posible for me to dynamicaly set the values variable while executing this command?

<echo>
****** Building directory ${values}
</echo>

If you're talking about updating a "progress" message, no, though I believe there's some sort of callback for IDEs to do things like that. Echo is executed as a step in an Ant target build, but it's not designed to go back and rewrite the line, nor is it fast enough to do so without being annoying.
But for a "I'm doing this" type message, yes, and you've shown it exactly as it should be done. I do things like that all the time.

Actually I have one more question. Is it possible to turn off some of the default output such as :[javac] Compiling 5 source files

Have you tried the -quiet option?
