Hi,
I think you are very confused. Applets do not run in Tomcat, it need a browser to run it or AppletViewer. Tomcat hosts the webpage which your browser loads, then the browser loads the Applet and run the applet at the client side. Tomcat is at the server side. Ant automates the process of building the applet and deployment.
If you could describe your problems in clearer terms, it will be more helpful to the rest to help.
Best Regards

Jasmine,
I guess when you said recompile, you meant rebuild --> compile the Java source files, jar the compiled classes into a jar file, signed the jar file and deploy the jar file into Tomcat. In your build.xml, do you have <signjar>, check your keystore and those required attributes of <signjar> in you build.xml.
Tomcat does not modify your jarfiles or whatever when it restarts.
Hope this help.
