Maven Ear build

I am new to Maven. I am using Maven Ear plugin to generate Ear for my J2EE application. I want the Maven to pickup my application.xml file while packaging the ear. But I could not able to pickup my application.xml file. I have kept the application.xml file in the default location as stated in theEar Plugin Documentation - ${maven.src.dir}/application/META-INF/application.xml.

My build directory structure is as follows:

As it is not picking up the application.xml file, I tried defining its location with property maven.ear.appxmlin my file. Still it is ignoring this path.

Can someone help me out as to where can I put application.xml file to pickup while packaging the ear.
