java2se 1.3 right out of the box...? it's starting to look real nice to me. are there others here that would benefit from an osX/java forum? personally, i'm on the fence but might dive in and buy a new g4, flat panel, and osx... any advice?

I have a Mac and run a couple of NT boxes for myself. I'd like to update the Mac to OS X soon. It looks great and the PR has been positive. It has to be the best looking desktop around. I'm just learning Java and don't know what the pros/cons are on the MacOS to answer your question, but like you I'd be interested in learning from those that are producing software for the Mac. If a new forum were started I'd read it. Mike

I'd certainly check out a mac forum, whether it was osx specific or not. For a system upgrade I'd need to get new hardware, too, but that will have to wait for next's year's budget. As a beginner, my needs are met so far with jdk 1.1.8, but eventually it would be good to use the latest java2. Though I've only looked at a few forums, I haven't seen any macintosh specific posts. The developer pages at apple.com surely have something... It would be nice to see at javaranch, though. cheers, Pauline

Wow, three people interested in the MacOS. That stinks! Hopefully OS X will take a hold in the Server market and drive the interest up over the next couple of years. Mike
