I just downloaded the linux version of the jdk1.3. I expected to get the package as a .rpm, but when I got it, it had the extension .rpm.bin. What is this .bin?? How can I extract the .rpm file? I realize that this may be a very basic question. I just switched from windows to linux, and I'm a complete rookie, so any help would be greatly appreciated because I need to get java up and running on my machine.
Thanks for your help.
Sean

.bin files are Unix executables. Make sure you can execute the file (chmod 755 filename) and execute it this way:
./filename.rpm.bin
Hope this helps.
