I have attempted to install java 1.3.1 and have ran across a light problem. Installation from an rpm works fine but after install is complete if I type java -version, javac, etc I recieve the following message:
/usr/java/jdk1.3.1/bin/i386/native_threads/java: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
I am stumped. Any suggestions whould be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
-Jason

This is a fairly well known problem. I assume you are using Red Hat 7 (or some derivative of it like e-smith). You need to install the "libc++ compatibility rpm" (I don't have the exact name to hand right now, but it's fairly easy to fdind on the RH CD or the RH web site :- look through the rpm list for one with "C++" and "compat" in the name.

Thanks, and it really works! I found my RPM from http://www.rpmfind.net with the "compat" criteria, and then search for "C++" in the web page. Thanks again!
