Which one is more suitable,best,efficient and easy to use on LAN.And does it possible that Server is using WIN98 and client using Linux.

Linux is better. A Win 98 "server" is something like a contradiction in terms, but there are tools out there to help Linux and Windows work together. [http://www/samba.org]Samba[/url] is one of them.

If you've GOT to use a Microsoft OS as a server, use an NT platform system, not a 9x one. For one thing, one version of Windows 98 has a known problem where after a certain number of days it will crash even if you never do anything. My copy has all the stability of a paper jumbo jet, and I'm allegedly pretty talented in the care and feeding of OS's.
Overall, it's better to have the server be Linux and the client be Windows. I'm not real happy with the current crop of Linux Desktops.
