Launching app in CLI

Hi, is there any way in UNIX(solaris and Ubuntu to be precise) to lunch an app in the commandline where it wouldn't have to wait for me to close the app before I regain control of the CLI again? For example:

this would run the eclipse script but the CLI pauses until I close eclipse. I want to be able to run another app after I've lunched eclipse. Any ideas? Thanks!

./eclipse &

That "&" means "run in the background."
