I was given two CD's from work today that have each program on them. I have NO expierence with any Linux platform and was hoping that someone(s) could actually spread a little light on the subject. If there is a website that I could go to that might be able to give me some direction or whatever that would be nice.

I was also wondering if there is a way to put to have a windows operating system and a linux system on the same machine with a choice at boot up.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

If you already have Windows installed on your system if you install Ubuntu, the boot loader will let you choose between the two operative systems.

It's no problem at all to setup a computer with multiple operating systems selectable at bootup. Both the LILO and GRUB bootloaders support not only mixing Windows with Linux but also Solaris, BSD, etc.

For the impatient who don't want to reboot, there's also virtualized machine environments such as VMware. That allows you to run Windows and Linux on the same machine at the same time and even network them together!
