If I change the "umask" value at a certain directory (by manually type "umask xx"), will that only affect files in that directory without affecting the umask setting for files at any other directory ?

umask works for processes not directories. So it will affect all new files created from that shell and all child processes.

I am not good at unix script. how to set umask in a korn script ? any example ?
