Hi All, I'm new to Unix environment. I'm using Unix server for deploying the application. The Unix server is located at remote location. For connecting to Unix server , I'm using secure shell (SSH). I want to know which flavour & version my server is having. Can any body please tell me, how to get that info ?
Recently discussed here. The short answer is that there's no universal way to find out what distro you're running! "uname -a" tells you some interesting info, and some distro-specific information is listed in that thread. But basically, it's mostly detective work.
Unless it is a Linux variant, uname -a is likely to reveal it. Also, just about every variant has some file in the /etc directory with "release" in its name.
