This sounds more like a Mac question than a JNI question, so I am sending it to that forum.

I admit I am a greenhorn, but I have been using Macs for many years. Files that end in .exe do not work on Macs, unless you use them with a PC emulator like Virtual PC.
If there is a Java workaround I would really be interested in learning about it.

There isn't. A PC emulator is the only way to execute an .exe file on a Mac. (And when set up this way, will only tun withing the PC emulator environment).

What is it you are trying to JNI to? Perhaps there is a Mac-compatible binary available, or an alternative that perhaps somebody may be able to suggest.
Just a though...
