From todays Java update for 10.4 I'm getting the impression that Java on 10.3 is abandoned already, except for security updates. I may be off on this, but I don't imagine that improvements to 10.4-Java aren't applicable to 10.3, or that the two implementations are very different. Unless a 10.3 update is forthcoming I'll be very disappointed in the speed in which Apple drops support for older OS versions. Has anynone read anything to suggest that this update will be available for 10.3 as well?
It is my understanding that the recent Java update just fixed compatibility issues with Tiger components — QT 7 in particular — and did not add any additional features.
As such, Panther and other pre-Tiger systems do not need the update.
Ah, I hadn't picked up on that bit of information. Makes me feel a bit better. Somehow I had gotten a different impression from the release notes that accompanied the preview releases on ADC.
