Okay, I wasn't ready for the $499-599 price tag, but it does look impressive (Apple and CNN). I'm already rationalizing: It's not just a phone, it's an iMobileComputer.

Yeah, naming it the iPhone is rather misleading as it seems that the phone aspect is just a small part of its capabilites.

just a quick update, then back to MacWorld:

- something around 340 x 450 pixels
- pretty snappy performance
- I'm going to try to find out if you can use it to hack a little Java (it IS OSX after all)

- it's all impressive, the browser is extra cool, and it's part way to the gestures in Minority Report

more in a bit...

And shouldn't "iTunes" really be "iMedia"? Especially with Apple TV bringing iTunes content like movies, tv shows, videos, trailers, podcasts, photos, etc. to your television.

Apple is just too innovative. They can't keep up with themselves.

And then you'd have the rugged little portable you're looking for?

According to CNN, the iPhone "can detect location from Global Positioning System satellites." But I don't see a GPS feature listed anywhere on Apple's site, or in Macworld's description. I know GPS was rumored, but did this feature actually make it in to the product?

The Apple site doesn't specifically mention the camera either. I guess the iPhone just has so many features, they can't even put together a comprehensive list.

Hi Pauline,

Of course we tended to flock to other developers in the "designer-heavy" halls of MacWorld, and of course all us developer types were asking the same questions "we will be able to write apps FOR the iPhone? Will we be able to use the iPhone as a computer? Will we get a terminal window?..."

Then we all had to speculate... "well why else would they build it on top of OS X?" "Will cingular be cool with us putting "jRandomApp" on a device that ties to their network?" "Will they give us a sandbox to work in?"

Of course none of us knew, but we all ended up being guardedly optimistic - and so yes - it would be an AWESOME little travel computer...

Consider Paul's rocket mass heater.
